Anti-racism event with Sadiq Khan

Sadiq Khan - Welcome to London - media
Created on
02 December 2020

You are invited to join the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, for an international Anti-Racism Event on Tuesday, 8 December 2020, 10:00 -12:00 (GMT).

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been borne disproportionately by African; Caribbean; South Asian; East and Southeast Asian; Gypsy, Roma, Traveller; and Latin American communities. Within this context, the tragic killing of George Floyd has shone a further spotlight on the structural racism faced by Black communities all over the world.

The event will highlight how the Mayor is tackling racism and inequality as London recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight how other cities in the UK and around the world are doing the same.

The Mayor of London will open the event with a speech, setting out his joint commitment with London’s leaders to a racially-just, inclusive recovery from COVID-19, after which there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

The speech will be followed by a pre-recorded panel discussion, bringing together the Deputy Mayors from Toronto, Chicago, Rotterdam and Bristol, and chaired by London’s Deputy Mayor for Social Integration, Social Mobility & Community Engagement, Debbie Weekes-Bernard, to explore practical interventions to combat racism by city-level governments, bringing together perspectives from the UK, North America and Europe.

In more normal times we would have hosted the Mayor's Anti-Racism Event at City Hall. Until then we do hope you can join this online event.
