The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee held two meetings in 2021, to explore the Daniel Morgan report findings and recommendations of the Report of the Daniel Morgan Independent Panel (DMIP).

Daniel Morgan was a private investigator murdered in southeast London on 10 March 1987. Despite four investigations, two reviews by the Metropolitan Police, and an intelligence-gathering operation, no one has been convicted of his murder.

The issues contained in the DMIP report raise serious questions about the conduct of the Commissioner.

However, at a Committee meeting on 22 July 2021, the Commissioner said that she was unable to answer questions on her relationship with the DMIP, as that material was being assessed by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and the IOPC.

The Committee has written to the IOPC asking it to make a decision on whether to launch an investigation, following the resignation of the Commissioner last month.
