By the river

We are making travelling by river easier and more reliable, giving Londoners an alternative way of getting around.

A river of opportunities...

The river provides a great opportunity to give more Londoners a better way of getting around, which will also reduce the squeeze on our buses and trains.

Improving river services and routes across the Thames

The Mayor would like to maximise the potential of the River Thames by encouraging more people to travel by river – whether for business or pleasure.

He has therefore set a target to double the number of passengers on the Thames, from 6 million to 12 million travellers a year by 2020.

The Mayor has asked Transport for London (TfL) to produce a River Action Plan to outline targeted measures to double the number of passengers on the river. The Action Plan will focus on expanding the pier network, improving information and integration, increasing promotion and enhancing partnership working. It will be published in February 2013.
