We are making travelling by river easier and more reliable, giving Londoners an alternative way of getting around.
A river of opportunities...
The river provides a great opportunity to give more Londoners a better way of getting around, which will also reduce the squeeze on our buses and trains.
Improving river services and routes across the Thames
The Mayor would like to maximise the potential of the River Thames by encouraging more people to travel by river – whether for business or pleasure.
He has therefore set a target to double the number of passengers on the Thames, from 6 million to 12 million travellers a year by 2020.
The Mayor and Transport for London (TfL) launched a new River Action Plan for passenger services on 26 February 2013 outlining a host of measures to increase passenger journeys on the Thames. The Action Plan focusses on expanding the pier network, improving information and integration, increasing promotion and enhancing partnership working.
