The Mayor’s Planning Decisions Unit offers a pre-planning application service for developers that can help speed up the planning process.
Pre-planning application advice
Since November 2007, the Planning Decisions Unit has been providing high quality pre-planning application advice to London’s developers. This service means that developers can talk face to face with GLA planning officers.
Effective pre-planning consultation ensures both applicants and GLA planning officers have the best opportunity to exchange information so that applications that may be referred to the Mayor comply with the London Plan.
This enhanced service for developers will help ensure proposed developments comply with the London Plan early in the planning process - speeding up the planning process for both applicants and the local planning authority.
Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2003, the GLA can make a charge for pre-planning application advice. The GLA kept its charges for this service unchanged from its introduction in 2007 until 2011, when a review of costs showed that the current level of service could not be maintained without increasing our charges. Details of the revised charges that took effect from 18 April 2011 can be found in the Guidance note below.
