Southall Gas Works site (West Southall)

When the Mayor takes over an application for his own determination he must hold a public hearing before he decides whether or not to grant planning permission. The Southall Gas Works site public hearing was held on 25 March 2010.

The Mayor approved the Southall regeneration scheme on 25 March 2010. See details below:

Ealing Council's Local planning authority ref no: P/2008/3981-S
Hillingdon Council's Local planning authority ref no: 54814/APP/2009/430

Following notices from both Ealing and Hillingdon Councils, that they were both minded to refuse planning permission for a large mixed use development including up to 3,750 new homes and extension of Southall town centre with new site accesses, the Mayor notified both Councils on 22 December 2009 that he would act as the local planning authority for the purposes of determining this planning application (GLA ref: PDU/2310)  (under article 7 of the above Order and the powers conferred by Section 2A of the 1990 Act).

A Representation Hearing was held in the public chamber at City Hall on Thursday 25 March 2010, starting at 18.00, for the Mayor to consider this application in more detail and to determine whether or not planning permission should be granted. The Hearing is open to the public and you are free to attend.

The Mayor will only consider applications to speak at the Hearing from any individual, or organisation, that made a written representation directly to either Ealing Council before 9 December 2009 or Hillingdon Council before 15 December 2009, as these are the respective dates when both the local planning authorities notified the Mayor of their resolution to refuse planning permission. Written representations received directly by the Mayor, before 15 December 2009, will also be considered as potentially eligible to speak at the Hearing.

If you have made written representation, in line with the aforementioned dates, and wish to make an application to speak at the Hearing you will need to submit to GLA officers a detailed statement of the issues you want to draw to the attention of the Mayor at the Hearing.  This information should be provided as soon as possible, but in any event, no later than 16 March 2010. This information should clearly state in what capacity you wish to speak (i.e. objector or supporter) and which organisation (if any) you represent. Any applications to speak should be made in writing to:
