When the Mayor takes over an application for his own determination he must hold a public hearing before he decides whether or not to grant planning permission.

Following a notice from Tower Hamlets Council on 8 June 2012, that it is minded to refuse planning permission for the redevelopment proposals at London Fruit and Wool Exchange, Brushfield Street, the Mayor notified the Council on 20 June 2012 that he would act as the local planning authority for the purposes of determining this planning application (under article 7 of the above Order and the powers conferred by Section 2A of the 1990 Act).
A representation hearing was held on 10 October 2012 at 18:30, at which the Mayor resolved to grant planning permission, subject to the prior completion of a section 106 legal agreement.
