Apprentices and London's food and hospitality sector

The capital's food sector turns over £16 billion a year and employs more than 300,000 Londoners. It is one of the most diverse and vibrant of any in the world and an important part of our economy.

The sector offers a wide range of careers but sometimes struggles to attract the skilled workforce it needs to develop and grow. Apprenticeships are a great way to address this gap and can help build a dedicated and committed workforce to improve a business' bottom line.

Takeaways toolkit

On the 21 November the London Food Board in Partnership with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health launched their Takeaways Toolkit – guidance for local authorities on how to tackle the public health impacts of fast food takeaways.

The London Food Board is an advisory group of independent food policy organisations and experts which oversees the implementation of The Mayor’s Food Strategy: Healthy and Sustainable Food for London.
