The Olympics and the boroughs - did everybody win?

Olympic park building work
Created on
18 January 2017

Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest are former host boroughs of the Olympics. What are their thoughts on the London 2012 legacy progress?

The London Assembly Regeneration Committee wants an update from the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) on their legacy progress, their long-term vision and their collaboration with surrounding areas.

The LLDC’s purpose is to “use the opportunity of the London 2012 Games and the creation of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to change the lives of people in East London and drive growth and investment in London and the UK by developing an inspiring and innovative place where people want to live, work and visit.”[2]

  • So how is the LLDC doing so far in terms of its legacy performance and long term goals?
  • How can the LLDC ensure that local people do not lose out when it comes to homes, jobs and skills?
  • How are local people consulted and what lessons have been learnt from the past?

The guests are:

  • David Goldstone CBE, Chief Executive, LLDC
  • Dr Paul Brickell, Executive Director of Regeneration and Community Partnerships, LLDC
  • Mayor John Biggs, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets
  • Councillor Clare Coghill, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and High Streets, Waltham Forest Council
  • Dr Debbie Humphry, Researcher and Photographer, Livingmaps Network

The meeting will take place on Thursday 19 January from 2:00pm in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
