A report launched this week ranked Copenhagen as the greenest major European City, with London coming in 11th place. On Monday the Mayor of London will travel to Copenhagen for the C40 Climate Summit for Mayors. He has said that he believes London remains “well placed to lead the world in becoming green”, despite being way behind Copenhagen on some key climate change policies (see table below for comparison).
Darren Johnson said:
“When the Mayor is in Copenhagen he should listen and learn lessons from the cities that in many ways are far ahead of London. For example, cycling is a major part of how Copenhagen’s people move around their city, with 36% riding to work compared to just 1% in London. The Mayor’s target is for 5% of journeys in London to be by bike by 2025, although his current plans and funding will take us less than half way there".
