Darren Johnson, Green Party Member of the London Assembly, will meet with local cyclists tomorrow to learn about the safety improvements which are needed on local roads.
The Mayor of London was due to open cycle superhighway 9 from Hounslow to Hyde Park running along the A4 and borough roads last summer. However, the route is one of six out of a total of twelve that the Mayor will fail to complete before he leaves office in May 2016. The Mayor's cycling commissioner has now said that cycle superhighway 9 will go ahead on the Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham sections of the route, but this is likely to be several years in the future.
During his visit, Darren will focus on safety issues in Chiswick, specifically Chiswick Lane, Chiswick High Road and Chiswick Roundabout. He will also be shown the Kew Bridge junction and Waterman’s Park, two local collision blackspots.
Darren has recently criticised the Mayor for abandoning his target of getting 5% of all trips to be completed by bike in the capital by 2026.
