The London Assembly Regeneration Committee report ‘Business Improvement Districts: The role of BIDs in London’s regeneration’ makes a number of recommendations about the future direction of Business Improvement Districts.

SITE VISIT

Thursday 25 February

Sensory Impairment site visit

Transport Committee 11am-1pm

Members of the Transport Committee and people with a sensory impairment will test the hearing loop on a Routemaster bus from Parliament Square to Euston station. They will then observe a visually-impaired person trialling the Wayfindr App (the first open standard for audio-based navigation) to travel down to the Victoria Line platform and back at Euston Tube station. Attendees include:

  • Val Shawcross, Transport Committee Chair
  • Katherine Payne, Wayfindr
  • Ashar Smith, a visually impaired young man who will be trialling the Wayfindr App

Mayor’s Question Time

Final Consolidated Budget 2016/17 - 9:00am in the Chamber

The current Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will present his last £16 billion final budget for 2016/17 to London Assembly Members.

After questions, the Assembly is under a duty to consider the budget and approve it, with or without amendment. Amendments are subject to securing the support of at least two-thirds of the Assembly Members present and voting.

The Mayor’s Housing Commitments

Housing Committee – 10:00am in Committee Room 5

Assembly Members review the Mayor’s housing commitments over his period in office and consider some of the key housing challenges which await the next Mayor and ways to deal with them. The guests are:

Impact of Welfare Reform in London

Economy Committee – 10:00am in Committee Room 5

The Economy Committee will receive a briefing from the New Policy Institute on its report: London’s Poverty Profile 2015. After this, the Committee will explore the impact of recent changes to the welfare system on people living on low incomes in London. The guests are:

Q&A with the Met and MOPAC

Police and Crime Committee – 10:00am in the Chamber

The Police and Crime Committee will hold a Q&A session with:

  • Craig Mackey QPM, Deputy Commissioner, Metropolitan Police Service
  • Stephen Greenhalgh, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC)

The Committee will question guests on the following topics:

  • The Met’s investigations of sexual abuse allegations
  • Gang violence
  • Body worn cameras
  • Support for adults with learning disabilities in the criminal justice system

GLA Oversight Committee – 2:00pm in Committee Room 5

The GLA Oversight Committee continues its scrutiny of the procurement process of the Garden Bridge design contract. It will question Transport for London’s (TfL) Audit and Assurance Committee response to concerns raised by the Committee. The guest is:

The Committee will also discuss the work of the Mayor’s Fund for London and its links with the Mayor and the Greater London Authority. The guest is:
