News from Caroline Russell: Londoners want Mayor’s clean air zone to go even further, survey shows

Created on
14 September 2016

71 per cent of Londoners want a new Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to be expanded and 79 per cent want it implemented faster, according to consultation results published today.

The report details the views of a record 15,000 respondents. There were also considerable levels of support for a zone that covers the whole of London and goes beyond the North and South circular. For Londoners living outside the north and south circular roads, a London-wide ULEZ was the most popular option.

Caroline Russell commented:

“Londoners have overwhelmingly expressed their support for action to clean up our city's air but they also want the Mayor to make his ULEZ stronger and cover a bigger area. The Mayor must listen to outer Londoners who want his protection from high air pollution and don’t want to be left out of his ULEZ.”
