News from Andrew Boff: Housing Zones review leaves future uncertain

The Mayor of London has announced a full review of Boris Johnson’s Housing Zones policy, potentially delaying the building of thousands of new homes.

Sadiq Khan told Assembly Members this morning he would spend up to six months reviewing London’s 31 housing zones, created by his predecessor to provide 77,000 new homes and 150,000 new jobs.

News of the review brings uncertainty over the future of major supporting infrastructure projects including station upgrades, new schools, bridges and community facilities.

Conservative London Assembly member Andrew Boff said:

The Mayor of London seems more interested in scoring political points off his predecessor than rolling up his sleeves and delivering the homes that London needs.

This wasteful review will only cause huge uncertainty over major building projects and thousands of jobs and undermines the good work carried out by Boris.

On top of this, Sadiq is yet to appoint a Deputy Mayor for Planning more than two months into the job. With this and his failure to commit to any housing targets whatsoever, it has been a worrying start to his tenure.

Londoners deserve a greater commitment from their Mayor in addressing one of the biggest issues facing our capital.
