Mayor salutes Mo Farah's 'stunning and historic' golden double

The Mayor of London has congratulated Team GB athlete, Mo Farah, on his amazing second gold medal of the Olympic Games in the men's 5000m final.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: ‘It is the icing on the London 2012 cake to witness this awesome athlete's stunning and historic victory tonight sealing two amazing golds in middle distance running.

‘He follows so many of our great team who have excelled beyond even their wildest dreams, in what has been the best Games ever and rounding off another fantastic day of sporting action."

The Mayor also sent his congratulations to Ed McKeever for his gold in the men's 200m Kayak sprint and Liam Heath and Jon Schofield for picking up bronze in the men's 200m Kayak sprint double.

The Mayor said:

"As we enter the final day of competition I cannot think of a more fitting way to see out the Games, than with another Team GB performance making capital and country proud once more."
