Objections to new parking restrictions in Greenwich

Key information

Petition presented by: Gareth Bacon MP

Date petition submitted: Wednesday 24 July 2013

Petition presented at: London Assembly Plenary

Summary of petition

“We, the undersigned, object to the proposals by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to introduce new parking restrictions in the areas around Avery Hill. If introduced, these proposals would move the parking out of Greenwich into Bexley, and into narrow residential roads within the Blackfen and Lamorbey & East Wickham wards which already have parking difficulties. As the residents most affected by the plans, we also note we have not been consulted on these proposals.

We therefore urge the Mayor of London and the London Assembly to reject these proposals by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and support Bexley residents.”

“Dear Gareth

Re: Petition received at the London Assembly (Plenary) Meeting on 24 July 2013

Thank you for the petition your presented at the London Assembly (Plenary) Meeting on 24 July about the proposals by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to introduce new parking restrictions in the areas around Avery Hill.

You may be aware that the proposals referred to in the petition have been referred to me by the Royal Borough of Greenwich under section 121B of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, which provides that the GLA has a power (exercisable by me) to approve such proposals where an objection has been made by another London borough and not withdrawn.

While I am considering where to exercise that power, I am sure that you will understand that in the circumstances it would be inappropriate for me to make any comment on this matter.”
