On 29 May 2015, the London Assembly Environment Committee responded to the Airport Commission’s consultation on the air quality assessment for its shortlisted runway options.
Our response makes a number of points, including:
- Concern at the short notice of the consultation, considering the amount of technical detail being consulted on.
- The longstanding opposition by the Assembly to the expansion of Heathrow, particularly on air pollution grounds.
- Noting that while Gatwick expansion would bring rises in emissions and pollutants, expanding Heathrow would bring an even higher environmental cost.
