What is the London Food Board ?
The London Food Board is an advisory group of independent food policy organisations and experts which oversees the implementation of The Mayor’s Food Strategy: Healthy and Sustainable Food for London, published in 2006 (and referred to here as the London Food Strategy) and to co-ordinate work and lead the debate ought on sustainable food issues in the Capital.
The London Food Board is chaired by Rosie Boycott, the Mayor of London’s food advisor, and is supported by Greater London Authority’s Food Team.
The London Food Board meets twice a year. It has an Executive Group which meets quarterly and four Implementation Groups, one for each of the main priority areas (Communities and Citizens, Business and Commerce, Boroughs, and Public Sector Procurement) which also meet quarterly.
Some of the work undertaken to implement the London Food Strategy is directly supported by the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority, through policy and staff support, and in some cases via dedicated funding.
Addtionally, and crucially, even more of the work described on this website is undertaken independently of the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority, by London Food Board members and organisations affiliated to London Food. Such work is supported through affiliation to the London Food Board, in spirit of openness and collaboration, and in pursuit of the aims of the London Food Strategy, recognising that significant improvements to London’s food system must be achieved through concerted effort if we are to overcome the considerable challenges that face our food system.
Please contact the Greater London Authority food team if you would like to attend a meeting of the London Food Board as a member of the public.
