First day
My first day as Mayor was fantastic. I will never forget the warm welcome from Londoners and by City Hall Staff.
Bus 'Hopper' fare
My dad drove a number 44 bus and transport has always been a big part of my life. I announced my ‘Hopper Fare’ on my second day in the job. From September 2016, Londoners will be able to make two bus journeys for the price of one within an hour. It’s just the start of my plans to make travelling around London affordable for everyone.
Anne Hildago visit
It was a huge honour to welcome Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo to London in my first week at City Hall. We share an ambitious vision for how our great cities can work together to tackle global issues like climate change.
Air quality
In my first week as Mayor, I visited Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School in Aldgate. The City is one of many areas in London where pollution is too high.
I also remember meeting Freddie at Great Ormond Street Hospital in July. He was suffering from illness linked to air pollution. It was here that I launched my bold plans to clean up London’s air.
Keeping London safe
My first priority as Mayor is keeping Londoners safe. I announced that Lord Toby Harris would be carrying out a full and independent review to make sure London is as prepared as possible to respond to a major terrorist incident.
Volunteering
Volunteering plays a big part in bringing communities together. It was great to see Team London volunteers in action on their Run to Do Good in early June. I joined them on their visit to an Age UK inter-generational volunteering event in Southwark.
I also did a run of my own, taking part in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in July in support of Age UK.
Fares Freeze
I’m very proud that I have frozen all TfL fares – in 2020 a bus or tube journey will cost the same price as today. This will help millions of passengers every single day.
Pride
Pride celebrations in London were truly amazing. I’m so proud to be mayor of such a tolerant and diverse city with a large and vibrant LGBT+ community.
Breaking my Ramadan fast with Londoners
Taking this historic selfie was an incredible moment. I had a wonderful time at the Lambeth Palace Iftar breaking my Ramadan fast with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, and young Londoners of all faiths and backgrounds.
Old school
I went back to my old school in early July. I took interesting questions from some brilliant young students. It was great to see London’s future is in safe hands.
Celebrating Eid with Londoners
Celebrating Eid in Trafalgar Square with Londoners of all faiths and backgrounds was one of the highlights of my first 100 days.

#LondonIsOpen
One of my proudest moments as Mayor has been launching the #LondonIsOpen campaign to show that London is united, open to the world and open to business.
There has been a fantastic response from Londoners across our city and from people around the world. Businesses, sports stars, artists, designers, and amazing creative people have come together to spread the message that #LondonIsOpen.
Neighbourhood policing
Keeping Londoners safe starts with real neighbourhood policing. I have put communities at the heart of my policing strategy. We’re introducing a second dedicated PC in every ward in London by the end of 2017.
#LondonIsOpen – International Busking Day
London led the first ever International Busking Day with 100 other cities around the world. It was brilliant to meet talented British singers and musicians like The Vamps, Tinchy Stryder and Jessie Ware. Together, we shared the message that London is open to the world’s performers.
