The London Assembly Economy Committee has written to the Chief Executive of Newsquest Media Group following potential staff redundancies at Newsquest south London.
The letter expresses concerns over plans to significantly reduce the workforce by mid-October, including the relocation of posts outside London and the risk this poses to the quality and long-term survival of local newspapers in south London.
The letter follows a motion unanimously agreed by the Assembly on 2 December 2015 calling on the Mayor to write to the Chief Executive of Newsquest about the relocation of media jobs outside London and for the Economy Committee to look at the contribution of local newspapers to London’s economy.
